An article is coming out today about the Wrangell students' trip to AISES! Check it out!

Wrangell High School students will share what they learned about the big impact of small things when they participate in the Advancing Indigenous Science and Engineering Society regional fair on Saturday, April 25, in Juneau. Their focus is on one small thing that belongs in the environment and one that doesn’t belong. The seven students will present their work on researching microplastics in the environment, and the medicinal properties of a lichen that grows on trees. The story will be in Wednesday's Sentinel, available at City Market, IGA, TK's, the Stikine Inn and Cooper's Corner, or at wrangellsentinel.com, or call 907-874-2301 to buy a subscription and never miss a week's news.

RASOR students traveled to Juneau last week to present their research! They did an excellent job. Gunalchéesh to Sealaska Heritage Institute for hosting this event!

Thinking back on all the fun we had a Sitka WhaleFest!

73 high school students from 13 different schools enrolled in UAS's Biology 175: Current Topics in Marine Research, which revolves around participation in the Sitka Sound Science Center's Whalefest. The weekend kicked off Friday morning with an ocean trivia competition for which 14 teams competed in a series of multiple choice, short answer, and specialty questions. Over the weekend the mornings were filled with hands on workshops set up by SSSC. In the afternoon students attended the 3 day symposium, hearing from 9 different speakers, and attending breakout sessions with the presenters to delve deeper into their research topics. Of these students, 13 were enrolled in the RASOR program. They arrived early to Whalefest and attended an additional day full of activities based around Tribal research in Southeast. These students heard from local and visiting scientists about science happening right now, and learned about how local knowledge and observations can be beneficial to their home communities.
