All about the 'que!
It's only June and our hopes for a swimsuit-ready bodies are already a thing of the past. That means we'll be able to enjoy the 16th annual RibFest relatively guilt-free. This popular benefit for Camp High Hopes brings out the area's top smokers for this Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned competition. Cheer on your favorite team --- and chow down on some championship grub from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's Battery Park, 111 Third St.

Nine days of festival fun
We always love it when Sioux City Summer Fest sets up shop at the Tyson Events Center parking lot, 401 Gordon Drive. Where else you scarf down some carnival food, strap into a midway ride, get a henna tattoo and pay too much for a caricature of yourself with a balloon-sized head and a stick person body. You'll be able to live out this dream anytime between Thursday and July 3, so plan accordingly.

Linda Miller Bellamy is the host of a S.O.A.R. Women's Conference, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sioux City Public Museum, 607 Fourth St., featuring her sister Sandra Pearson, musical director of the Sioux City MLK Community Choir; Monique Scarlett, president of Sioux City's NAACP; and Jill Miller, a Sioux City-based gospel singer-songwriter, who will serve as one the event's speakers.

A medley of music from several Pixar animated features will highlight the Sioux City Municipal Band's Grandview Park concert at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The band, under the direction of Michael Prichard, will play selections from "Toy Story," "The Incredibles," "Up" and "Cars." In addition, they will play Karl King's "Purple Pageant," John Williams' march from the movie "1941" and a Gershwin medley that includes "Fascinating Rhythm," "I Got Rhythm" and "Embraceable You."
The traditional sing-along, led by bandshell host Dave Madsen, will include "Bicycle Built for Two" and "Man on the Flying Trapeze."
The summer concerts, presented by the Sioux City Parks and Recreation Department, will continue through July 26.

In the latest "Sux 6: The Best Things to Do in Siouxland," the 16th annual RibFest, benefiting Camp High Hopes, will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's Battery Park, 111 Third St. If barbecue isn't your thing, perhaps gyros are. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 900 Sixth St., will be holding its 25th annual Greek Fest on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Victoria Mendiola, owner of the Sioux City-based Mac'gyver Models, said fashion can happen anywhere as long as you have a runway and a positive attitude. This is why her modeling agency is partnering with Downtown Partners for the first-of-its-kind Runway Sioux City, an all-day outdoor fashion show, taking place from 2 - 9 p.m. June 13 at the intersection of Fourth and Nebraska Streets.

Live from Downtown Sioux City
Downtown Live -- the popular first-Friday-of-the-month outdoor music series -- will be moving to the corner of Fourth and Virginia Streets. Soulful. Minnesota-based singer-songwriter Dan Rodriguez will open the season at 7 p.m. Friday.
