In today’s episode of “it’s practically impossible for a small business to exist on Facebook anymore”...

I just received a notice that I’ll no longer be able to share links in my posts unless I pay a monthly fee (and you guessed it, it isn't cheap) 😕

So apparently, sharing a link to my own website is now a luxury 🙄
That makes sharing my name more important than ever. If I've photographed your family, I hope I’ve given you the kind of experience that makes you think of me when a friend asks, “Do you know a photographer who gives you photos you absolutely love AND makes the whole experience really great?”

Because honestly, a personal recommendation means so much more to my business than an algorithm ever will.

Am I the only one to believe that families shouldn’t have to pay extra just because their child needs a little time to feel comfortable?!

I came across an ad for mini sessions recently. 10 minute time slots, the photos taken whether the child was crying or not. If your child needed a little more time to warm up, you were told to book two sessions!

Double the cost, simply because unfamiliar surroundings sometimes require a few extra minutes to adapt 🤔

This is exactly why I believe your family deserves a full session that allows everyone time to relax, settle in and have fun, instead of the rushed, stressful feeling that can come with a quick timed session.

I know that fall and winter seasons are popular for mini sessions, however, as you likely already know, I don’t believe in Mini Sessions.

Since I first began this business, my goal was for every single person in front of my camera to feel important and valued, rather than just "client #6 of the day". My attention is solely focused on you, just as you deserve. No rushing, no worrying about having enough time to shake those jitters, and plenty of time to feel as though you are my *only* client.

Photos are best when you’re relaxed and have time to become comfortable in front of the camera. That is really hard to do with only a 15 minute time slot, especially for children!

Your session includes time for us to laugh together and play with your children, resulting in more natural images without that rushed feeling. Of course I totally get that adults are nervous as well, so don’t think I forgot about you! There is always a bit of time reserved just for us to get to know each other and be real.

This may sounds a little crazy..but I’m already finished with my holiday shopping!

I have piles of totes and boxes stacked in the closet. Usually I wait until a few days before Xmas to wrap, but now I’m wondering, should I do it sooner?

I want to promise you, I will never upload your children's photographs to ChatGPT or any other AI tool.

I don't know exactly what happens to an image once it's uploaded, how it is processed, or where it goes. That uncertainty is enough for me to say no.

When you trust me with your kids, I take that responsibility seriously. Their safety and privacy matter to me and uploading their images to AI isn't a decision I feel is mine to make 💙

I wanna be transparent about something.

I really don't like when my studio looks like this.

Sure, it's neat and everything is put away...but I'd much rather have stuff thrown everywhere because I just finished a session.

I've been doing this for 17 years. There have been a lot of tears, a lot of sacrifice and a whole lot of laughter packed into those years. I've put too much of myself into this business to not care deeply about what happens next.

And honestly, I don't want to let it all go. I don't want to eventually have to walk away from photography and figure out what the hell I'm supposed to do for a new career after 17 years of building this.

So when a friend says, "We really need to get photos done. It's been forever," I hope you're the one who says, "You need to go to her."

Because I'd much rather be standing in the middle of a messy studio, too exhausted to put it all away, than ever looking at an empty one like this 💙

Sometimes we need children more than they need us.

They are our reminder that there is beauty and kindness in the world. They are carefree and curious, causing us to pause and view life in a different way 💙
