Tesla, the automobile manufacturer, has settled with the EPA after numerous hazardous waste and air emissions violations were discovered at the company’s Fremont, CA manufacturing plant. EPA Pacific Southwest regional administrator, Mike Stoker, said that the settlement will bring urgently needed emergency response equipment to the City of Fremont. Fort Worth, TX - Two medics passing the Interstate 35W northbound ramp to Interstate 20 eastbound ramp in their ambulance late last week, spotted a car on fire which had crashed into another vehicle where the ramps merged onto the highway. According to the Dallas Morning News, medics Miguel Brito and Ryan Bader immediately took the fire extinguisher from the ambulance and suppressed the flames enough to begin extricating two adults from the car. Each day approximately 100 injuries happen to agricultural workers that result in lost work time, according to data from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Deaths are not uncommon in agriculture either, with 417 people dying in 2016, resulting in a death rate of 21.4 deaths per 100,000 workers. Beloit, WI – OSHA has again cited Avid Pallet Services LLC after a follow-up inspection found employees continued to be exposed to wood dust. The company faces penalties of $188,302 for repeated, serious, and other-than-serious safety and health violations. Inspectors determined that the Beloit, Wisconsin, pallet manufacturer failed to implement sufficient engineering controls to limit dust exposure, as well as train employees on the health hazards of wood dust. Station KUOW reports that Washington's largest state-run psychiatric hospital has been cited and fined for failing to protect workers from assaults by patients. The enforcement action this week by the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) follows a months-long investigation triggered by three violent patient-on-nurse assaults last year at Western State Hospital (WSH) in Lakewood, Washington.
