Sheltering Silverton

Every year our team slows down our day shelter and services work to focus on team development. It's a challenge to train as a team when you operate a 24/7 service so we do appreciate our community's patience as we focus on team growth.

Silverton, once again you showed up! We put out a request for graduation party decorations for our two high school graduates at the shelter. Not only did you deliver decorations, you donated an incredible spread of food, and enough financial support that we were able to give our hard working kiddos $700 each toward their next steps. This community continues to embrace our unhoused community with such warmth and generous support. Thank you for being the village these kids needed.

We want to especially thank their teachers, school support staff, and our SRO Officer Aljets for showing up to the party. You support for these students means the world.

Thanks to Larry McCool and Caesar The No Drama Llama for bringing Caesar's gentle presence into our shelter for the afternoon!

Thanks the Little Leaf Cafe and Oso for donating an incredible spread of food. It was delicious and devoured.

Thank you to our Resource Center Manager Elyse for her hard work coordinating an amazing party and to the rest of our brilliant team for wrapping these kids in love and care. Both students remarked that they have never felt as safe and happy as they did when the moved into our shelter, something that took us all by surprise.

And finally, we want to thank our other shelter guests. These folks rallied around our grads for the past several months. providing mentorship, friendship, grandmotherly guidance and care, and loads of laughs and encouragement.

We are reaching out for community support for our two high school graduates. As you can imagine, finishing high school while living in a homeless shelter without family support is a challenging experience. We want to celebrate our hard working grads with a party.

We are blown away by the generosity of this town. Our grads will enjoy a very special party and generous gifts from the community. We can't thank you all enough!

We are wondering if the community can help us outfit the party with Silverton Foxes graduation decorations. If you would like to contribute, you can drop off decor at 830B McClaine Street. Our party will be next Friday, June 5th. We have a tight budget so we are trying to source items for free if possible. We can return them if desired.

We are seeking the following items:

-String lights
-Balloons
-Graduation banner
-Any grad decor you might have lying around

DONATION REQUEST:

We are seeking donations of some sports equipment for our shelter. As the sun comes out, some of our shelter guests would benefit from more recreational activities. If you are able to donate used sporting equipment, we'd be so grateful. We are especially interested in a badminton/volleyball set, a football, and pickle ball gear.

We have a newly housed friend in need of a full size mattress and box springs. Can anyone help? ❤️
