Big update: the Public Safety Committee unanimously passed the Unmask ICE Act.
We are almost at the finish line. The full Council vote on my bill is scheduled for April 28th. Keep calling in, writing, and speaking out!
Working families in Montgomery County are already hurting from federal cuts. A property tax hike right now is the wrong answer.
Today I announced my alternative: a progressive income tax on income above $1 million. The wealthy pay their fair share. Working families are protected. And we fully fund our schools and the nonprofits on the frontlines of this crisis.
There is another way. We just have to have the courage to take it.

Masked agents in unmarked cars. Neighbors too afraid to answer the door. Families wondering if the person at the corner is law enforcement or something else entirely.
That's not public safety. That's the opposite of it.
Today, the County Council's Public Safety Committee unanimously passed my Unmask ICE Act to restore a basic principle: if you're enforcing the law in Montgomery County, your face and identification should be visible.
I introduced this legislation because Montgomery County shouldn't wait for permission to stand up for its values. I look forward to the full Council vote on April 28. Thank you to all the advocates and community members who have come out in support.
