Today, OPEIU Local 2 proudly recognizes May Day International Workers’ Day.
May Day is a time to honor the workers who came before us those who organized, fought, and sacrificed to secure the rights and protections we have today. It is also a reminder that our work is not finished.
This year, In Los Angeles, California, Local 2 joined in taking to the streets for the May Day March, raising their voices for workers’ rights, dignity, and justice.
At Local 2, we remain committed to that same fight supporting workers everywhere as we push for fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect on the job.
When we stand together, we are stronger.
When we organize, we win.

This past weekend, members of OPEIU Local 2 joined leaders from across the country for a powerful Educational Conference experience. From engaging discussions to hands on workshops, the weekend was all about strengthening our union, sharing ideas, and building connections that move us forward together.
We’re proud to represent Local 2 and bring back new knowledge, energy, and strategies to continue supporting our members.
Stronger together. Always. ✊

Our rights weren’t given—they were fought for and won by workers who refused to accept dismal working conditions. On International Workers’ Day and every day, the labor movement carries workers’ strength in our fight for justice.

This Workers' Memorial Day, OPEIU honors the hundreds of thousands of workers who have lost their lives while simply trying to make a living.
Corporations have for too long been willing to sacrifice our safety and health simply to boost their profits, and we must stand together in opposing these backwards priorities, demanding stronger protections and calling for more funding to OSHA.
More than 380 American workers died on the job each day in 2024, the most recent data available. This staggering figure is unacceptable.
Every workplace death is preventable.
Let us never forget those who've lost their lives due to this injustice, and keep their memories alive by demanding permanent workplace safety reform to protect all workers.

Today, we celebrate the incredible career and retirement of Linda Bridges, President/Business Manager of OPEIU Local 2.

Her leadership extended beyond Local 2, serving for over a decade as Secretary-Treasurer of the Metropolitan Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the Community Services Agency, MWC, AFL-CIO. She also dedicated her time as a trustee on multiple pension and health and welfare funds.
Linda’s commitment, support, and dedication to this union and its members have made a lasting impact. Beyond her leadership, she has been a passionate community activist, always working to uplift others.
