For the Children’s National Hospital, this special gala represented 155 years of care.
For this milestone held at the Mellon Auditorium, we saw to it that every detail was designed to honor that history while feeling vibrant and present.
The gallery-style lollipop installations invited guests to pause and reflect on the hospital’s impact through the decades.
The floral palette — classic white with unexpected electric blue — symbolized both tradition and forward momentum.
What we wanted to create went beyond décor. It was storytelling in three dimensions.
Designing for institutions with this kind of legacy is always an honor. ✨

As we look toward America250, the question isn’t how do we recreate the past. It’s how do we honor the past while designing for today?
Modern patriotic events are less about literal flags and more about feeling:
✨ Clean architectural lighting in red, white, and blue
✨ Sculptural installations
✨ Layered textures that feel elevated, not theatrical
✨ Moments of storytelling woven into the environment
Designing for America250 events, especially those for corporations, associations and charities, is a shining opportunity to reflect who we are now while honoring where we’ve been.
As you begin to celebrate America's 250th, let us help you create an event that feels distinctly American and unmistakably modern.
Rendering vs. Reality
We sometimes hear, “Well, with a rendering, everything can be perfect.”
🎯Exactly.
A rendering isn’t a fantasy. It’s a plan. It tests scale, materials, and brand presence before anything is built.
That’s why we love placing renderings side by side with event-day photos. Because when you plan for perfection, you often get very close to it.
➡️ Ex*****on doesn’t start on-site.
It starts with a plan!

Our Creative Director and President, Sara Rose Harmon, approaches event design as storytelling. Her floral design storyboards are rich with color, reference and in-season bloom choices. They offer inspiration and a behind-the-scenes look at how ideas take shape long before guests arrive.
She shares these storyboards exclusively in Design Dispatches, our twice-monthly newsletter.

If you’ve lived in Washington, DC for any length of time, you know how special spring truly is. The city softens. Streets filled with history come alive again. Gardens bloom, light lingers longer, and there’s a collective sense of renewal that feels both personal and shared.
🌸
Spring in DC has always been about more than flowers. It’s about honoring the past while looking ahead with optimism. It’s about gathering with intention, celebrating those who serve, and creating moments that feel timeless, hopeful, and rooted in shared values.
🌸
At this event, we laid a trail of cherry blossoms for the guests to enjoy from the entrance columns to the bar wrap to the freshly cut blossoms in the centerpieces.
🌸
As we look ahead to America 250, the most meaningful designs feel like our spring intentions -- grounded, hopeful, and human. The goal is always the same: to create an environment that feels welcoming, timeless, and quietly powerful.

Pro Tip: Design every event with the guests’ journey at top of mind. When working with a large head count, we recommend creating various areas for folks to grab a drink or bite, snap a photo, and mingle in style. For this event at the Spy Museum, that meant a photo op and champagne lady in the lobby, bars and seating in the ballroom, and highboys on the rooftop. Give your attendees something to see, do, and eat in each space to avoid bottlenecks and your event will flow better! 🍸💃
