Inspired by her father, a NASA scientist, Jena Kent grew up wanting to be a meteorologist. She majored in atmospheric science and interning at the National Weather Service. What she learned in these experiences surprised her-that meteorology might not be her path. Jena enjoyed earth science and wanted to work in any field related to her interests. Having taken courses in geography, oceanography, physics, geology, and math for her degree, she jumped at the chance to be an oceanographer when the opportunity presented itself.
