“Cocheta” is a Native American word meaning “that which cannot be fathomed.” Rick shares more about the name, its meaning, and the story behind how this piece came to life.

Last weekend, we were thrilled to host the opening reception for Carved by the Water’s Edge: What Do You See?—an exhibition of remarkable driftwood sculptures by Rick La Rue.

Using driftwood gathered along the Chesapeake Bay, Rick transforms nature’s castoffs into one-of-a-kind works of art, preserving every softened edge, striking grain line, and organic shape.

Now on view in CREATE Arts Center’s Tamar Hendel Gallery through June 6. Stop by and see where nature meets imagination. Also, stop by for the Artist Talk on Tuesday, May 12, from 6:00–7:30 PM. See you there!
