Happy birthday to the trailblazing entertainer and civil rights activist Josephine Baker! 💜

Josephine was the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture and went on to use her platform to fight racism in the United States. As a dancer in the 1950s, she refused to perform for segregated audiences and became one of the few women to speak alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Over 100 years later, RepresentWomen is committed to carrying on the legacy Baker helped start. We’re dedicated to advancing the structural changes that enable more women, especially women of color, to run, win, and lead successfully. Baker’s legacy inspires our commitment to equality, and we hope it inspires you, too! 🎂
