On behalf of MCCPTA, you are cordially invited to the MCCPTA Downcounty Consortium Summer Area Advocacy Meeting on Tuesday, August 5th. The meeting will be from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Albert Einstein High School, 11135 Newport Mill Road, Kensington, MD 20895.

It's a wonderful opportunity for students, parents/caregivers, school staff, and members of the school communities to share their priorities for the upcoming school year with MCCPTA, MCPS, and elected officials. The topics for discussion will include:

Boundary Study and Secondary Programs Analysis

Future of DCC Programs

Capital Projects and Facilities Maintenance

Curriculum, Differentiated Instruction, and Grading

Code of Conduct, Safety, and Well-being

Please see the attached invitation. We ask that you RSVP (see first comment) to ensure that there is enough meeting space for the event. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Students at the Middle and High School levels will be able to earn SSL hours during this event.

Families in the DCC need to be aware of these changes that could affect our children. If your child attends Argyle or any of the other schools in the DCC area, please read!

Montgomery County Public Schools is reviewing its magnet, language immersion, and Down County Consortium programs in an effort to improve equity.

Some changes under consideration could reshape how students access specialized academic opportunities across the county.

From another MCPS DCC mom in another group, important information regarding changes coming and MCPS not being transparent. This us a great summary:

I wanted to make sure that every knows that MCPS is considering a lot of changes to special programs, including breaking up the DCC. The proposed changes will have an outsized effect on 8th graders who will be making their DCC choices this coming fall.

MCPS hasn’t communicated that clearly to students and families so I wrote a summary of the process and how it may impact DCC students.

The linked Google doc is a summary of the process. I’ve also linked the MCPS feedback form so students and families can share their thoughts on this process.
