Residents fight to keep sailboat tradition afloat – Siesta Sand About a dozen sailboats sitting on county-owned land at Beach Access 8 – some of which are even known to be available for public use — are scheduled to be removed starting May 1 by Sarasota County officials.

Please take note! Hurricane season is not over yet and the potential of another Weather Event is real. This is the current model for TD 16.
During a Weather Event:.
It is Mandatory that all boats are removed from the Club Docks. All boats on property must be properly secured to protect your property, your neighbor's property. You will be responsible for any damage sustained to or caused by your boat or equipment.
It is important that if you have any boats or property on or in the water in the vicinity of the Sarasota Sailing Squadron premises that you either remove them to a safe area or secure them for possible storm conditions. This includes removing any loose equipment – life jackets, sails, sailing gear, etc. and firmly securing your boat and / or trailer or mooring to prevent wind or water damage. Remember that you are responsible for any weather related damage to your boat, and any damage your boat may do to other’s property. You can obtain further information about how to properly secure your boat, by navigating to the Hurricane Preparation tab on the Sarasota Sailing Squadron's Website.
Although weather is always unpredictable, please do not wait until the last moment – if the weather becomes severe, it is likely that roads may be closed and there will be no access to the club. Further weather alerts may be issued as circumstances dictate.

Notice: Hurricane Irene is on the way! All the boats at access 8 will need to be tied down properly and facing the water. Any boats not following these strict rules will be subject​ for removal. Do not leave your boat abandoned for this storm as it will become a serious hazard. Please pass this message on.
