Somewhere out there, humans are on their way to the Moon.

No noise. No gravity. Just the curve of Earth fading into the distance.

Artemis II feels like a quiet reminder — we’re still explorers.

Artemis II, we’re waiting… Apparently, those solar superflares need to calm down.

Personally, Lahaina is a place of love and heartbreak, life and death, success and failure. I lived a lot of my life in that beautiful Maui town. It’s a place that’s very dear to me, but bittersweet. While Front Street was a tourist destination for most, it was my daily commute. Any day there were waves, I was surfing anywhere from Launiupoko to Honolua. Often, I surfed the Harbor, jumping off the pier past the lighthouse. The spot could get packed with keiki shredders from Lahainaluna, but during school hours I would catch the spot with only a few other regulars. On bigger days I loved surfing the right that emptied into the channel. I frequented Breakwall less often, mostly because I didn’t enjoy dodging all the surf schools. But that outside left racing along the harbor wall was magical at times. Making these posters brings back a lot of memories.

It’s not just the wave — it’s getting to the wave that becomes etched in a surfer’s memory. Tourmaline, it’s the steep entry into the parking lot filled with vans and wetsuits. Honolua, it’s the descent down the cliffs from the dirt road above.

Shark Pit is one of those unforgettable entrances. It’s now bittersweet due to the devastation from the Lahaina fire. But I would park my scooter on the side of the road along Front Street, and walk the narrow stone wall lined path nestled between old Hawaiian houses. Then, paddle the narrow winding channel, dodging reef heads that were waiting just inches beneath the surface, ready to filet the bottom of your board. Oh, and the wave, it’s fantastic. And the sharks, I never saw any, but reef sharks are just more friends in the water.

Oranges! We’re working on a new line of fruit illustrations. I grew up in rural Central Florida in the 1980s and 90s, surrounded by abandoned orange groves. My childhood was filled with rotten orange fights, and all the orange juice I could squeeze into my mouth. The orange seems like a fitting place to start.
