Sauvignon Blanc: a refreshing glass of vino

🍋

From Forrest Schaad: Since 1903, my family has been deeply rooted in Oregon’s farming heritage, beginning with a land grant near Newberg, Oregon. In 1953, my grandfather bought our current vineyard, originally cultivating a variety of crops including walnuts, cherries, and Italian prunes. In 1980, my father made the pivotal decision to plant vineyards, replacing black caps and securing 5 acres from his father. Witnessing the growing interest in Oregon Pinot Noir, our family has steadily expanded our vineyard over the years.

At Schaad Cellars, we aim to craft wines that are both lovely to drink but also cause one to think. We’re passionate about wine, and passion is reflected in every bottle we offer. Our approach is hands-off, allowing the true essence of our vineyard’s grapes to shine through in your glass. We strive for wines with an expressive mid-palate, displaying a characteristic earthiness accented by mineral notes. Balancing vibrant fruit flavors with refreshing acidity is a hallmark of our style and vineyard. There are a lot of wines that check all the boxes but have no soul, we strive to make delicious wine that over-delivers.

Furthermore, our commitment to sustainable farming practices is unwavering. All our vines are self-rooted and dry-farmed. Techniques such as mycorrhizal fungi, worm castings, biochar, and compost teas have been integral to our farming since 2009. Continuing our tradition, our end posts are still hand-split cedar sourced from the Coastal Ranges where our family has camped for over 50 years. In 2014, we embraced a no-till approach, further enhancing the health of our vineyards. Keeping the land and vines healthy is the key to great wines.” ~ Forrest, Schaad Cellars

As an African-American winemaker, Chris is a proud member of the Association of African American Vintners where he is a board member and serves as the Secretary of the organization. Additionally, he works to promote diversity and inclusion in the wine industry through speaking engagements, podcasts and serving as mentor for aspiring vintners and wine brand owners for Wine Unify. Chris is also a proud father, an avid fisherman and a history enthusiast who brings his vibrant energy to every interaction.

• BODKIN VICTOR’S SPOILS SAUVIGNON BLANC
Chris’ signature still Sauvignon Blanc; to the Victor goes the Spoils!
Aromas of lemon, pear, guava and jasmine explode from the glass. Subtle hints of gooseberry and herbs add to the complexity of aromas. This Sauvignon Blanc is like taking a refreshing sip out of a crisp lemonade, accented by sweet apricot and green apples dancing on the tongue. The textured finish is refreshing with a lovely note of lemon curd.

• BODKIN BUBBLY BLANC in a CAN
Do what you can or “can” what you do? ...so Chris did both...He has worked with 7 other wine bands on their premium canned wine projects over the past 8 years and is excited to bring back cans of his own for the first time since 2021.
The Bubbly Blanc is a 70/30 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat Canelli, that is every bit as florally-delicious and refreshing as it sounds.
250ml of delight! 11.0% abv

•• We also have Bodkin ‘Agincourt’ Bubbly Sauvignon Blanc and Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc available.

• Looking for something very special to recommend for giving or serving, look no further than this beautiful offering of Midnight Cellars Mare Nectaris Reserve.

Mare Nectaris (Latin for “Sea of Nectar”) is a lunar mare / sea on the moon near the Sea of Tranquility. Thousands of years ago wine was referred to as ‘the nectar of the gods’ and it was believed that the finest wines were worthy of being served to deities. This Reserve blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petite Verdot and Cabernet Franc is elegantly layered with notes of rich red fruits, minerals and herbs, and is worthy of being served to your most beloved and honored guests.

Santa Baby…🎵 a couple bottles under the tree,
for me 🎄

On a teeny parcel of land high in the rugged hills of the York Mountain AVA we find a 7.5 acre farm that grows bushvine own-rooted Grenache, Gracianco, Syrah & Clairette Blanche alongside vegetables and grazing animals. Anthony, Hillary and their family live here and call it “The Royal Nonesuch Farm”, a reference to the great “tragedy” of Huckleberry Finn
and a steady reminder not to take themselves too seriously.

2023 Royal Nonesuch Farm White

2022 Royal Nonesuch Farm Red

✨ There is something mystical about a wine that captures your undivided attention. The wine that stops you mid-conversation so you can slide back to your glass and catch another sip…that draw, that pull, to come back for one more sip, for one more moment ✨

2023 Kinero Cellars In Vain
This old vine Cuvee leads with Chenin Blanc and expresses the beauty of elegant, supple Chenin. The supporting cast consists of Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc which provide rich texture, stunning aromatics and layers for the palate to plunge into.

Winemaker’s Notes: Whole cluster pressed to barrel for wild fermentation. Bottled without fining or filtration. Gently aged for 16 months in 225L and 320L barrels, of which 20% were new French oak. •201 cases crafted•

Olfactory Notes: Youthfully exuberant aromas of pineapple, peach, jasmine, and chaparral (a hardy desert shrub).

Palate Notes: Apricot, caramel, orange zest, and roasted pistachio burst on the mid-palate. The finish is dapper with a silky mouthfeel and precise acidity that perks your palate for the next sip.

• Which wine is a palindrome, includes high levels of antioxidants within its thick skins and is also known as “Harriague”?

VINA PROGRESO 2022 REVOLUTION TANNAT
These grapes come from small plots located within the limits of the Progreso Village Region in the Canelones region of Uruguay which is 15 miles (25km) from the coast. The vines range from 10 to 20 years old and their soil type is clay calcareous with rather high PH levels.

VINA PROGRESO 2022 OVERGROUND TANNAT
This wine is called “overground” as its character is more refined and elegant. Overground expresses intense and complex flavors which are the result of the slow ripening season, typical of the cool temperate climate of the southern region of the Uruguayan coast. These grapes come from vineyards located within the Progreso Village District but these vineyards are more high-density plantings with low yields. The age of these vines range from 10 to 30 years old with an elevation of approximately 330 feet (100 meters) above sea level. In Uruguay elevation is not as important for grape growing, the most important aspect is how close to the sea the vineyards are located and these vineyards are within 20 miles of the ocean. The soil type is clay calcareous with rather high PH. With these grape selections the winemaker, Gabriel, obtains high concentration of tannins with delicate flavors and aromas.

• Take these Tannats to the Table: A very faithful ally of the “Carne Asado” (roasted beef cooked on an open fire of wild woods), these Tannats also pair well with oven roasted lamb, pork, and beef and game meats; wild boar and deer. They will also shine alongside hearty casseroles, bean stews, cured ham, sausage and sharp cheeses like Parmigiano.
