Just in time! Students have learned the theory of Air Conditioning, performance testing, and diagnosis. Now they are finishing up removing and installing HVAC boxes.

The class had alot of fun today. This vehicle came in with a complaint of poor acceleration. It was a gift to the owner a couple weeks ago, and ran ok up until yesterday. We discussed what various things could cause the concern. The students hooked up the scan tool and found a Throttle position inconsistent with Mass Air Flow code in the memory. They then pulled the air filter to take a look at the MAF. You can see the oil saturated filter. This can be caused by a failed PCV. The oil was so bad that it had gotten to the MAF and it was covered (dripping!). They replaced the MAF, PCV, and air filter.

The MAF sensor meters the air coming into the engine. When more air comes in, the computer sees that through the MAF and increases fuel. On this vehicle the computer didn't know it needed to add fuel, so the car wouldn't go.

Ending fall quarter with Automatic transmissions. They are essentially a giant puzzle. One wrong part in the wrong place and it won't go back together.

Over the years a couple students did manual swaps on their cars. The result was donated autotransmissions. If you look at the last 2 photos, one is clutch material out of a trans that was slipping, vs a new one!

Even with COVID we are still here! Automotive is an essential work force, so everyday we don our PPE, maintain social distancing, and get our education on.

So proud of the Shoreline students. 10 students took the day off work and came to compete. 3 of our very own AST students came.... and we are taking one to state!

Traveled into Tennessee yesterday and up early for basic electrical concepts training at Nissan. Cant wait to bring Nissans approach into our curriculum
