Mainline Photography

My first 2 weeks with the Canon R6 Mark III. The first shooter was my producer/friend Rachelle Beitler, who shot a St. Kilian soccer championship game. She nailed most of the shots with the fantastic auto focus on the camera.

Then I shot the Sewickley Hunt Horse Show. I was equally impressed with the auto focus zoning in on the eyes of either the horses or the people.

Today I hung out in the backyard to see if I could get the hummingbirds. The last time I tried with the Canon 5D Mark IV I had to wade through a ton of shots to get a small percentage that were in focus. They are fast objects, as you know. Definitely an improvement over prior years.

Nicki's Thai cuisine in Mount Nebo.. Shrimp in a ginger sauce. If anybody knows of a better Thai restaurant in the area let me know.

Shooting tv news exposed me to different scenarios and shooting locations most days. That comes in handy now with my photography. Like shooting headshots in the hallway at a business.
Normally, the backdrop I use is the one on the floor with the white floor cloth attached to the larger backdrop. Unfortunately, it literally blocked the whole wall and doorway, as you can see. People needed to come through, so I used the smaller one for the back and still had a bounce fill from the bottom and sides.

I have to do just a little more work in post to remove the backdrop cleanly. My goal here is to isolate the subjects for a headshot and a full body for a team shot that I will composite together and move people around to fit any personnel changes. Like now.. The new people will fit into a prior team shot I took last year. This avoids having to get 10 or more people together for a team shoot everytime it changes. I create transparent backgrounds for png files and various backdrops , like the downtown look, corporate offices, or just plain white or black. Whatever. Mt. Fuji if desired.
