A cottage can be seen in the foreground across the water and the only 8 year-old Setauket United Methodist Church can be seen on the horizon line just to the right of the middle of the photograph. The church was dedicated on October 12, 1870.
The cottage up front looks like it would be the location of where the Setauket Post Office is located today next to Frank Melville Memorial Park at 101 Main Street (Old Field Road). That would be the road seen at the far right middle of the picture.
