๐ถA tremendous day of music on the Olympic Peninsula!
Today marked the return of the North Olympic Honor Bands for the first time in nearly 20 years! Student musicians from six school districts across the Peninsula came together for a full day of rehearsals, learning, and music-making before presenting an outstanding evening concert.
The middle school honor band, under the direction of Dr. Ken Bergevin, and the high school honor band, conducted by Paul Bain of Western Washington University, delivered outstanding performances that reflected the talent, dedication, and hard work of these remarkable young musicians.
We are incredibly proud of these dedicated young musicians who spent their Saturday working hard, making new friends, and creating exceptional music together. Their enthusiasm, talent, and commitment were on full display throughout the day.
The Sequim City Band was honored to help make this festival possible alongside an outstanding team of local music band educators: Megan Sanger (Forks), Pepin Wi******er (Crescent/Joyce), Jarrett Hanson (Port Angeles), George Rodes (Sequim), Kim Clarke (Port Townsend), and Daniel Ferland (Chimacum).
A special thank you as well to the many Sequim City Band volunteers who helped throughout the day to make the day a success, including our Board President, Vicky Blakesley. Events like this are only possible because of the dedication of volunteers who generously give their time and energy in support of music education and young musicians across our region.
After nearly two decades, it was wonderful to see the North Olympic Honor Band Festival return, and we hope this is just the beginning of a new tradition for student musicians across the Peninsula. ๐ถ
And the music doesnโt end after high school! Join us tomorrow afternoon to hear the Sequim City Band and see what lifelong music-making looks like in our community!

The Sequim City Band will perform "Let's Go Soaring," a free concert open to the public, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 7 at the James Center for the Performing Arts.
โThis music reminds us that sometimes the best way to explore new horizons is simply to listen, imagine, and let yourself soar,โ said Music Director Tyler Benedict.
From thrilling adventures in the skies to songs of freedom, imagination, and exploration, โLetโs Go Soaringโ celebrates humanityโs enduring fascination with flight. Inspired by the spirit of the North Olympic Peninsula โ where Sequimโs famous โBlue Holeโ often brings brilliant sunshine beneath the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains โ the program reflects the joy of open skies, fresh horizons, and soaring possibilities. Through cinematic themes, spirited marches, uplifting contemporary works, and timeless classics, audiences will be invited to rise above the ordinary and experience the exhilaration of taking flight.
It is the second performance in the "Concerts at the James" summer season concert series.
