Trusses, trusses, trusses. We love trusses! .... But wait, what’s a truss and what does it do?

Trusses provide many beneficial key factors for the structural integrity and operation of a greenhouse. They are made to support not only the roof of the greenhouse, but also to furnish a safe place to support whatever covering is needed - polyethylene, polycarbonate, acrylic, glass, and more.

Made up of smaller pieces, their design is intended to hold the weight of the roof as well as inclement weather and other varying conditions. The reason why the webbing, or cross bracing, is typically seen in a triangular shape is because it is a shape that cannot be distorted under pressure or stress. Trusses carry that triangular structure even in a hoop house. (See photo #3)

Having a strong truss is very important to the overall quality and functionality of your greenhouse.

We hope you enjoy this gallery of a few of our favorite trusses.

All about that natural finish! ▪
This gorgeous redwood Sturdi-built greenhouse is simple, yet eye catching. The accentuations of nature's authentic color really makes it pop against the natural PNW pine background. All that we applied to this was a protective clear finish. Let us know what you think!

Fun fact!

Did you know that a larger air mass distributes heat better than a dense collection of air molecules within a small greenhouse?

In addition to this, a taller greenhouse gives plants more air above their tops to take advantage of the ventilation. This is why we place fans hanging from the ceiling to move the fresh air across the surfaces for rapid gas exchange.
