Sunday Update, June 21, 2026

Hello Church,

This weekend was full of celebration, first Chuck Milliman's service was a beautiful personification of his humble and faithful life. Thanks to everyone who brought food to the potluck and to Pastor Lewis for the amazing eulogy! And then on Sunday, we celebrated fathers and father figures with a group interview in place of the sermon. I want to thank Kobus, Phil, and Mike for sharing from their hearts. It was a wonderful illustration of the body of Christ at work. I will leave you with a bit of Chuck's favorite psalm:

Psalm 34:1-7
I will extol the Lord at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 I will glory in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
3 Glorify the Lord with me;
let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.

Only picture from yesterday's 3 mile hike on the Larry Scott trail. We had a good turnout - 8 people and three dogs. This kingfisher had a fish in his mouth, probably going to feed it to the babies.

Sunday Update, May 10, 2026

Dear Church,

We celebrated a beautiful Mothering Sunday together! Thank you to Audree and Charrise, Mallory and Deborah, who participated in a group interview and shared so wonderfully from their hearts. The wisdom they shared blessed all of us. And it wonderfully illustrated that whether or not someone has children, biological or not, we can all mother those around us. I closed with this quote from pastor and mother Micha Boyett:

"The life of Jesus is what God wants to say to us. And if it’s true that mothering is a verb that any of us can practice, then Jesus reveals to us over and over the mothering work of God.
To mother is to protect the most vulnerable.
To mother is to give life.
To mother is to relentlessly choose hope.

I would offer the premise that if we begin to look for Jesus’s mothering presence, we will find it all over the Gospel stories. And maybe if we look for it in scripture, we’ll also look for it all around us. Maybe we’ll realize that we are surrounded by those who mother, and that we are invited to mother too. We are invited to protect the vulnerable, give life, choose hope."
