Growing up, I’ve always liked stark black and white patterns like zebra stripes, checkered, or houndstooth. On the other hand, I love a lot of color and variety.

Zebra print really gives and opportunity for some variety in stripes without harsh, straight lines. The white gives a lot of contrast here on the rainbow background, but with some wave to it. It’s got some movement to it without being too busy.

I liked the last pattern so much (Juniper and Jace) that I had to keep going with it. This time, I wanted something with a bit more contrast, just to see if the pattern could take it. I got quite a bit with the dark chocolate and soft pink.

It reminds me a lot chocolate covered strawberries or cherries, like those Queen Anne chocolates you see around Christmastime. The white also gives a nice cream, smoothing over the whole piece.

I have attempted cross stitch before, but it was not quite my cup of tea. I like the variety of stitches in embroidery better. But I tend to still use a lot cross stitch patterns in my new work.

I found this one on Pinterest, and I think it started out as a purple gradient. I had a lot of reds and and pinks laying around, so I wanted to try that instead.

The black and white parts came about naturally, giving a little more contrast and breaking up the similar hues. It strongly reminds me of a deck of cards.

Sophia came about as I finally mastered a technique I’d been attempting for several years. The thought of knitting more than one strand together fascinated me, but it managed to elude me as well. It was definitely a white whale for me. The rainbow variegated yarn gives a lot of variety while the hearts and white background help anchor the other colors down.
