Seminole Public Library 2026 Summer Reading Program has begun

Each year the Seminole Public Library hosts the Summer Reading Program as part of the Collaborative Summer Reading Program. This year's theme is Unearth A Story, highlighting dinosaurs, archaeology, and local history.

The Summer Reading Challenge is now underway encouraging children 12 years and under to read at least 25 books from May 1st to June 19th. Signing up for the challenge is easy. Simply stop by the library to sign up and get a reading log at 424 N Main Street in Seminole. The logs must be turned in by June 19th in order to earn certificates and prizes. It’s not too late to start the challenge, but you should hurry to make certain you have time to earn your prize!

Performers will be at the Municipal Building Wednesdays at 10:30 in June to promote the program starting with The Balloon Guy June 3rd high energy fun with balloons and lots of laughs. On June 10 the fun continues with Extreme Animals. This event will give everyone the opportunity to see and touch a wide variety of animals: some sweet, some surprises, and some scary! On June 17 Mad Science returns with more entertaining science experiments.

The 2026 Summer Reading Program will conclude the month of events with the Awards Ceremony, when all the readers that met the challenge and read 25 books receive their prizes.

The Summer Reading Program is sponsored in whole or in part by the institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library and Services and Technology Act Administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, and the Seminole Public Library.

I just ran the overdue list. Yikes! Twenty pages of people who haven't returned their books. Please check your due dates. It is so easy to finish a book (or not) and forget to return it, but a public library only works if the books stay in circulation.
