Fastest way to improve your marketing without spending a dollar:
Contact your 5 best customers. Ask them 3 questions:
- Why did you choose us over the other options?
- How would you describe what we do to a friend?
- What almost made you NOT hire us?
Write the answers down word for word. Don't paraphrase.
Question 1 gives you your positioning. Question 2 gives you your homepage headline. Question 3 gives you the objections your marketing needs to answer.
It's a very valuable exercise in marketing and it costs nothing but a little humility and a phone.

Fractional Friday!!!!
Ok let's just do the math real quick:
Hiring ONE marketing director: $130K salary + benefits + 3-6 months to find them + another 3 months before they're fully ramped. So you're looking at close to a year and $150K+ before anything meaningful happens. And that's ONE person with ONE skill set.
Fractional team: ~$7-12K/month (can vary). But you get strategy, copy, design, ex*****on, reporting. Multiple skill sets. Day one. No ramp because we've done this before.
Run that out for a year. You're paying ~$84K-$144K for a TEAM versus $150K+ for one person who's still figuring out your business in month 6.
One isn’t better than the other. There are absolutely situations where a full-time hire makes more sense.
But for a lot of companies a fractional marketing team is the smarter move. Period.

Here's something very important to think about:
Your best marketing copy already exists. You just haven't written it down yet.
It lives in your sales calls. In the emails where someone says "I found you because..."
People don't convert when they read YOUR words about YOUR product. They convert when they read THEIR words about THEIR problem on YOUR website.
That's it. That's the whole trick.

What most companies' marketing actually looks like month by month:
January: This is our year. We're going to be consistent. :)
February: 3 posts go out. Two of them are about the Super Bowl.
March: The content calendar from January hasn't been opened since January.
April: Team members start asking ""are we still doing the marketing thing?"
May: A competitor launches a campaign, which initiates a meeting.
June: The new intern starts posting but nobody reviews the posts.
July: Here comes the marketing isn't working slander.
Those that have lived through this calendar need more than motivation.
These companies need a team behind them that makes sure things happen every month busy or not.

Fractional Friday time!
When your sink breaks, you don't hire a full-time plumber to live in your house.
You call one and they show up. They fix it then leave. And when something breaks again, you call them back because they already know your pipes.
That's fractional. You don't need us in your office 40 hours a week. You need us when you need us, and we already know your business when you call.

We’ve all noticed how the parking lot at any gym is packed in January and half empty by March?
Everyone signed up with good intentions. Ya know, the whole new year, new me, let's go!
By February, half of them stopped going. By March, the regulars have their spots back.
Companies do the same thing with marketing.
Big launch in Q1. New strategy, new tools, new content calendar.
By Q2, the posts are getting less frequent.
By Q3, the content calendar is vacant and someone says marketing isn't working.
Marketing wasn’t the problem. The problem was they stopped showing up.
The same way that the gym doesn't stop being effective in March. People just stop going.
