The Storied History of Guttenberg

Guttenberg has a storied history. Many historians have tracked the history of this four-block wide urban center in Hudson County.

First a farm crated by one William Cooper, it was sold to New York developers in 1853, then subdivided before being sold. There were two ferries that regularly crossed the Hudson during this time – the Hultz and the Flora – that were run out of Guttenberg by the Weehawken Land and Ferry Association.
