Annual Prescribed Burn Completed Successfully!

Yesterday, Graton Fire, alongside several neighboring fire agencies, successfully completed our annual prescribed burn near Green Valley Road and Maddocks Road.

A total of 15 acres were burned to help reduce hazardous fuels, improve wildfire resiliency in the area, and provide firefighters with valuable hands-on training ahead of the 2026 fire season.

Prescribed burns are an important tool in wildfire prevention, helping to decrease fire intensity and improve the safety of our communities while strengthening interagency coordination and preparedness.
We would like to thank our partner agencies for their assistance and collaboration:

• Gold Ridge Fire Protection District
• City of Santa Rosa Fire Department
• Occidental Fire
• CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit

We appreciate the continued support of our community as we work together to reduce wildfire risk and keep our region safe.

Proud of our volunteer firefighter! Evan has been with us since he was 16. He just graduated from college in Montana and is now managing the state for Watch Duty. The best news? He’s doing it remotely from Graton most of the time! That means you will continue to see him serving his community. Thanks Evan!

The Graton Fire Protection District along with multiple surrounding fire agencies will be conducting a prescribed burn on Saturday June 6th in the area of Green Valley Road and Maddocks Road. This prescribed burn is essential in order to reduce fuel in the area creating a fire break and provide firefighters with valuable training under real life conditions as preparation for the 2026 fire season. Please see the attached information release for additional details. Please also note smoke will be visible during the burn and burning will not take place if conditions are not favorable before the burn is planned to take place as well as at any time during the burn.

Citation: Inappropriate charging attempt by a Tesla.

Okay, so we don’t issue citations, but if we did… we would remind this driver not to accelerate too fast when sneaking between on-coming cars while turning from Guerneville Road on to Olivet Road. Fortunately, only the Tesla was involved and the driver suffered minor injuries. He apologizes for anyone who got caught in the traffic delays he caused.

We’d like to give a huge thank you to our community for the support shown at our 75th annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser! The event was a huge success and we couldn’t be more grateful to have a supportive community behind us!

Right after the event, crews went back to work responding to multiple trees down and wind storm related calls, including a roadside vegetation fire. With our career and volunteer staff, Graton Fire had 5 total engines and support vehicles handling calls all at the same time throughout our district.

Three members from Graton Fire Protection District recently completed the Motorized Watercraft Rescue Technician course with Intrepid Maritime.

The course focused on boat handling, risk assessment, and operating in dynamic water environments through a mix of classroom work and hands-on scenarios.

With a department boat in service, this type of training ensures our personnel are prepared to use it safely and effectively when it matters.
