Do you hear it? πΈ π£οΈ
The staccato chirp of the coquΓ frog and the layered, complex call of the wood thrush make the nocturnal forest come alive. π²
That's the inspiration behind Amanda Harberg's Impulsive Nature β and this Tuesday, our own Bassoon & Contrabassoon Kipras Mazeika brings it to life.
"I imagine the piece to take place in the forest at night, as the nocturnal animals are becoming active and the coquΓ frogs ascend into the treetops," says Kipras. "The horn and bassoon trade bird and frog calls with one another β in constant conversation."
The program also features Eric Ewazen's Trio for Bassoon, Horn and Piano β filled with, as Kipras describes it, "unexpected, beautiful harmonies" β before the evening closes with Brahms' lush String Quartet No. 2 in A minor.

Have you ever HEARD the Periodic Table? πΆ
On May 8 at 5:30 and 8pm, composer Jessi Harvey merges the worlds of music, chemistry, literature and cultural memory in Octave 9: Raisbeck Music Center.
The piano, performed by award-winning pianist Xiaohui Yang, combined with captivating visuals and sound design creates a story of survival, a contemplation of identity and an exploration of the elements that build a life.
This event is possible thanks to Community Stages Fund, a Seattle Symphony grant that lifts up Puget Sound artists and communities that do not usually have access to spaces to produce and present their art.
