AeroTEC was founded with the goal of providing turn-key flight testing, data analysis, and FAA certification services for aircraft OEM's and modifiers.

AeroTEC was founded in 2001 at Boeing Field in Seattle WA, with the goal of providing turn-key flight testing, data analysis, and FAA certification services for aircraft OEM's and modifiers. Since then we have expanded to our current offices in Seattle, just north of KBFI, and added a flight test center in Moses Lake, WA, as well as our own hangar! We have also expanded our service offerings to in

KSPS PBS stopped by our Flight Test Center in Moses Lake, WA to film a career spotlight on Paolo Cumerlato, AeroTEC Liaison Engineer, for Career Explore NW.

Paolo started his career as an A&P Mechanic – a foundation that led him to where he is today as a Liaison Engineer. He bridges the gap between departments, supporting maintenance and quality teams in troubleshooting aircraft, interpreting technical documents, and amending drawings and documentation. No two days look the same.

Career Explore NW connects people across the Pacific Northwest with real career opportunities in their own backyard – stay tuned for Paolo's feature!

A big thank you to KSPS PBS and Jason Miller, Investments & Partnerships Director, for making this happen – and to our workforce development partners at Grant County EDC, North Central ESD, and the Port of Moses Lake.

The battery you certified the aircraft with is not the battery you'll be flying in two years.

Battery degradation is one of the most underappreciated challenges in electric aircraft development. As a lithium-ion battery cycles through charge and discharge, two things happen simultaneously:
1) Capacity decreases – the battery simply holds less energy
2) Internal resistance increases – more energy is lost as heat, less reaches the motor

The result? Available energy for propulsion can degrade by up to 50% over the life of a long-life battery pack. The aircraft you flight tested at certification may behave very differently as the fleet matures.

For flight test engineers, this has real operational implications:
✅ Performance testing can't just happen once – it needs to repeat at meaningful State of Health (SOH) intervals
✅ Low State of Change (SOC) behavior on an aged pack can look dramatically different than on a new one
✅ Temperature and aging interact: older cells generate more heat and respond less predictably to cooling systems
✅ Cooling system validation needs to be repeated periodically, not just at entry into service

The good news? A well-validated battery numerical model can help predict degradation curves and target which SOH conditions need physical testing. But that model needs to be built on real data – which means rigorous instrumentation from day one.

Electric aircraft aren't just a new propulsion type. They're a new philosophy of lifecycle management. Is your flight test program built to track performance across the full battery lifetime?

Proud to have hosted FlightPath at our Moses Lake facility last week – a Washington Commerce event bringing together industry partners to talk about the future of flight.

Grant County is where that work actually happens. Thanks to Commerce and the Port of Moses Lake for bringing the right people to the table.
