SocialScale began when its parent company, Seabourne Consulting started partnership talks with GNIP, a social media data provider. GNIP had rich Twitter data but many companies didn't know how to work with their data. In early 2014, Seabourne built a tool to easily access GNIP's Twitter data but shortly thereafter GNIP was acquired by Twitter. The prototype laid the groundwork for working with multiple data sources and in mid-2014 Seabourne launched SocialScale with Mike Reich as CEO, Nick Spang as General Manager, and Scott Maxson as Chief Engineer.
