We're gearing up over for GIVE BIG 2026! 🌟MAY 5TH!! ✨

04/11/2026

Hey, Local PNW Playwrights! Submissions are currently OPEN for the Union Art Center's New Works Northwest Festival! Check out the details below!

Union Arts Center is currently accepting submissions of new full-length plays from Pacific Northwest Playwrights for next season's New Works Northwest Festival (NW2), to be held April 6-11, 2027 in UAC’s Bullitt Cabaret.

Each Festival script will receive a professional team for 12 hours rehearsal, 1 performance, and 1 talk-back with the playwright. Festival playwrights receive $500.

This is a showcase opportunity - we encourage you to send scripts that have been through a development process and are ready for an audience. Scripts that have been previously submitted to NW2 may be submitted again if they have undergone significant changes or rewrites. For NW2, a “new” play is a play written in the last 6-8 years that is unpublished, unencumbered, and has not received anything beyond developmental productions in the Seattle region. A PNW playwright is a playwright who makes the PNW their primary residence and considers it home.

Submissions close June 1 or by the 200th submission, whichever comes first. To submit, visit https://airtable.com/appBl8cG0lwS9Ppa0/shrGblcyUYJnVbIZA

Many thanks to the Union Arts Center and Shana Bestock for their tireless work finding new ways to support local PNW playwrights, including the creation of this NEW Little Free Library. Theatre lovers are welcome to take copies and leave copies of plays.

And as a community partner, Rain City Projects will be keeping it stocked with free copies of The Manifesto Series (featuring PNW playwrights) and other works.

The next time you are at the Union Arts Center, grab a play! If you are a PNW playwright, you are welcome to stock the library with two copies of any of your published works. (To protect playwrights, plays must be published in book form and registered with the copyright office.)

Take a play! Leave a play! The Little Free Theatre Library will be available before all shows. Check it out the next time you're at the Union Arts Center!

Local submission opportunity at Seattle Public Theater! Get yer fearless feminist plays ready for submitting to DISTILLERY 2026 starting on August 15th! Just check the details in the link to be sure your play is the right fit 👍

⏰ Submissions for 2026 Distillery New Works Festival are right around the corner! Submit your play starting NEXT FRIDAY, August 15!

✏ This year, we will review the first 600 scripts submitted to Distillery. Submissions will close when we reach the 600 play cap, or on September 5th, whichever comes first. We will then review these scripts and select a group to move on to the next round. We will be looking for an eclectic group of feminist plays to round out this exciting new works festival. We will prioritize playwrights local to the Pacific Northwest and those from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in theater.

✏ As always, the Distillery New Works Festival is a celebration of emerging theater and an opportunity for playwrights to gain valuable feedback on new work. Each play in the festival receives a live reading by a cast of professional actors, allowing it to live and breathe off the page. The readings conclude with a discussion of the play with the playwright, giving writers the chance to receive feedback from Seattle audiences and providing a platform for audiences to help shape new works in process.
