Showing Up Matters: A victory for Washington's immigrant communities I just attended a federal court hearing that gave me a feeling that has been in short supply: hope for our immigrant neighbors.

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹.

Every day, we see how Head Start helps children build confidence, develop critical skills, access health services, and prepare for kindergarten, while helping families navigate challenges and achieve their goals.

Good news: More than 800 Washingtonians who were set to lose their Apple Health (Medicaid) coverage today can keep it – and keep getting the health care they need.

A federal court temporarily blocked the Big, Bad Betrayal Bill from cutting health care for immigrants who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI). These are very vulnerable patients, with significant medical needs. We worked to support this case and stand up for immigrants. State agencies are working to notify people directly. We are working hard to mitigate the harms of H.R. 1.

Neighborhood House staff joined community leaders, health professionals, and advocates at the 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 to learn, connect, and explore this year's theme: "𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀."

𝗔 𝗪𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲

Today, more than 1,200 Washingtonians woke up knowing they can keep the health care they depend on.

Just one day before Medicaid cuts were set to take effect, a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction in the lawsuit Neighborhood House filed alongside Northwest Health Law Advocates, represented by Barnard Iglitzin & Lavitt, LLP.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.

For many people, this means continued access to doctors, medications, caregivers, and services that help them remain healthy, safe, and independent.

The case continues, but today we're celebrating an important victory for our community and the power of advocacy.

This month, Neighborhood House was proud to host the PEARLS Network Partner Meeting at our Tukwila office, bringing together organizations committed to supporting older adults and promoting mental well-being.

We've been a PEARLS partner since 2019, and we're grateful to be part of a network dedicated to reducing social isolation, supporting emotional health, and helping older adults thrive.

Thank you to our fellow PEARLS partners for spending time in community, sharing resources, and strengthening our collective impact.

What an incredible month of community care and connection!

This August, Neighborhood House hosted four Health & Back-to-School Fairs, bringing together partners, volunteers, and supporters to serve nearly 2,000 community members and provide 1,139 backpacks filled with school supplies.

To everyone who donated, volunteered, sponsored, and showed up for our families: thank you. Your support helps make sure children are ready to learn and families can access the resources they need.

We're especially grateful to Seattle Housing Authority, Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club, and all of our community partners who helped make these events a success.
