Beauty is in the details. The materials, fittings, and skilled craftspeople behind custom design are what give a home its character. From natural stone to custom millwork to hand-crafted stained glass—each choice is an opportunity to reflect your personality and create your distinctive home.

Travel naturally comes with a sketchbook for Ellen Mirro, Principal at Studio TJP in Seattle. She recently escaped for a getaway in Cabo San Lucas. While there, she painted plein air watercolors that capture light, texture, and place — a slower, more observant way of seeing than a camera allows.
The habit traces back to her mother's encouragement and training, from study abroad in Rome to plein air drawing in the master’s program at the University of Washington, where sketching on site was foundational. For her, drawing isn’t just documentation — it’s careful observation needed to draw and paint and a way to better understand the world around her.

Tip of the Day: Design with Sustainable Waterproofing in Mind
Great bathroom design balances performance and beauty. One of our favorite sustainable solutions is Moroccan Tadelakt — a centuries-old lime plaster finish we featured in our View Ridge home remodel.
Hand-applied and polished with olive oil soap, it creates a seamless, grout-free surface that’s naturally waterproof, low-maintenance, and breathable. The result: a soft, sculptural finish that feels timeless, spa-like, and effortlessly elegant.
Proof that the most durable materials can also be the most beautiful.

Studio TJP Principal Howard L. Miller brings the same precision and patience he’s known for in architecture to the art of bonsai—and his work is getting attention! One of his Chinese Elm bonsai has been selected for the “Winter Silhouettes” show at Garden, on view January 31 & February 1.
The elm is more than thirty years old and has been in training for about 20 years. It is presented in a classic Chinese pot, accompanied by bamboo grass and a striking suiseki figure stone from the collection of Edd Kuehn, who also provided the display tables and dai.
A quiet, masterful composition—where architecture, nature, and time converge.

WHAT A TRANSFORMATION!
We love to creatively reimagine your home! This 1931 Budget Tudor needed a facelift inside and out and we worked closely with the owners to ensure we created an economic whole-house remodel to enlarge key living spaces and finish the basement area to help create usable square footage.
Principal Howard L. Miller sketched ideas with a plan to answer clients’ needs by adding two dormers to gain the space needed to relocate the stair, enlarge the bedrooms and add a bath on the second floor. The small roof over the entry porch adds some weather protection and curb appeal.
The most dramatic change involved bringing a formerly dark back stairway to the front, which is now a curving wooden staircase leading to the spacious second floor and allowing us to open the kitchen to the dining room and have a gorgeous, open star to the second floor.
A beautiful blue-gray paint, new porch and steps designed with feng sui in mind, a happy blue door, and careful landscaping amplified the curb appeal.
