Lindsay Clancy was calm and cooperative during a psychiatric examination days after killing her three children and attempting su***de, a psychiatrist testified at her ongoing murder trial.

The psychiatrist agreed Clancy was an “honest” patient. She also acknowledged a person can communicate and make plans while still being in a state of psychosis.

The medical testimony came during the second week of Clancy’s trial on three counts of murder in the killings of her children Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and 8-month-old Callan.

The case has explored the controversial “insanity defense” and the severity of postpartum mental illness.

On January 24, 2023, Lindsay Clancy fatally strangled her three children in the basement of their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home using exercise resistance bands.

She then cut her wrists and neck and jumped from a second-story window in a su***de attempt, leaving her partially paralyzed.

About a week later, Lindsay Clancy called her husband from the hospital, he said.

“She didn’t talk about our kids, she talked about what she went through,” he testified. “She said she heard a man’s voice telling her that if she didn’t do it now, she would lose her chance – or something like that.”

Patrick Clancy testified about his ex-wife’s downward spiral, full of hospital visits and about a dozen medications to treat her insomnia, anxiety and depression.

Lindsay Clancy does not deny she killed their children, but she has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder, arguing she should not be held criminally responsible for fatally strangling them.

Her attorney has said she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and extreme mental illness when she killed them on January 24, 2023.

The trial is expected to focus heavily on testimony from dueling psychiatric and medical experts.

She faces life in prison if convicted.

Patrick Clancy testified his former wife struggled after the birth of their third child, and that she told him in the months before the January 2023 killings she was having thoughts of su***de and harming their kids.

Between September 2022 and January 2023, Lindsay Clancy was prescribed several medications by at least three different providers, her former husband said. T

hrough their questioning of Patrick Clancy, prosecutors noted it appeared his ex-wife had taken only a fraction of the many pills she had been prescribed; Patrick Clancy testified he was not aware of how much medication his then-wife had or had not taken.

Lindsay Clancy’s “big spiral” started around early December 2022, when she began taking a new medication, her former husband said. Lindsay Clancy told her then-husband she was suicidal and had “intrusive thoughts” about hurting their children, Patrick Clancy testified.

He was not concerned for their safety at that time because she didn’t show “any intention” of harming them, he said. Lindsay Clancy spent multiple days in psychiatric hospitals in late December 2022 and early January 2023 because she was still having thoughts of su***de, Patrick Clancy said. After she was discharged, she seemed “much better” and said she was no longer having suicidal thoughts, he said.

Hours before the killings, Lindsay Clancy built a snowman and played with her three kids, her ex-husband testified. “She was having one of her best days,” Patrick Clancy said.

Before the father of three left their home to pick up dinner, he said he kissed one of his children on the head and told his family he would “be right back". She killed them after he was gone.

The amazingly mature response of a devastated father

Lindsay Clancy's defense says she was a loving mother who was overmastered by postpartum psychosis, a dangerous psychiatric condition that afflicts a small proportion of women after childbirth and affects their hold on reality.

Prosecutors contend that she acted intentionally and should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of Callan, Dawson and Cora Clancy, who ranged in age from 8 months to 5 years.

Why did Lindsay Clancy do it?

Alongside a sniper pad, a red and black screwdriver 🪛 found on the roof of the Losee Center originated from Robinson and Twiggs, said Amanda Bakker, a DNA forensic examiner for the FBI.

In court, prosecutors said "the purpose of the screwdriver has still not been uncovered".

Could it have been to assemble the gun?

Maybe, but there's no evidence presented for that yet. A Ma**er 98 usually doesn't need a screwdriver to assemble the main parts. You'd need tools to mount a scope, adjust a bipod, or tighten action screws.

Moreover no witness has yet testified that they saw the man on the roof assembling anything. No parts were found loose on the roof, either.

Right now: The tool is listed as "unknown purpose" as investigators haven't linked the screwdriver to assembling the rifle. It was just logged as evidence found on the roof with his DNA. Perhaps it was utility that dropped or got left behind from his backpack, one can speculate.

Chris Bagley, a police officer who used to work at Utah Valley University was the one who spotted the screwdriver, which looked "out of place to me".

Conservative commentator Jack Posobiec was in the court room when they showed the never-before-seen footage of Tyler Robinson on the roof at UVU. The footage is expected to be released to the public at a later date.

"You see him take the shot", Posobiec said.

"It's the most damning thing all week I've seen for Tyler Robinson. It's a COMPLETELY different video. I'm just gonna say what it was. You see him shooting Charlie. You see him executing Charlie," he added.

"It was like watching Charlie die all over again seeing this video...with the zoom in, it changes everything."

"They have the timestamp [in the footage]. It's 12-21, 12-22 when he gets there. I'm sitting there like: stop the clock. Trying to will time to stop. Don't get to 12-23. He gets to 12-23 — and you see him take the shot. He gets back up, and he runs across,"

Jury selection for Luigi Mangione's state-level charges (murder and weapons possession) is scheduled to begin on September 8, 2026.

His attorneys briefly considered using a psychiatric defense, arguing he was under "extreme emotional disturbance" but suddenly abruptly withdrew this plan.

He is pleading "not guilty" to the shooting murder of Brian Thompson.
