Introducing newest ride: the Lake Union Family Ride! We are excited to welcome families, friends, bike commuters, community members, and everyone in between to join the fun around Seattle’s iconic Lake Union.

Starting at the King County’s Gas Works Park with a coffee stand, food trucks, vendors, and kids’ activities, enjoy the festivities and grab a free souvenir before heading east on the Burke-Gilman Trail. After pedaling over University Bridge, spend some time at the official midpoint rest stop at South Lake Union Park for a tour of MOHAI and build boats at the Wooden Boat Center. Lunch will be available for purchase from food trucks at the park. While making your way up the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop, enjoy views of bobbing boats in the water and the structures of Gas Works Park across the way! After crossing the Fremont Bridge, hop back on the Burke-Gilman Trail and enjoy the final stretch back to Gas Works.

We’re heartbroken that Christian Salyer, a teacher at Seattle’s Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, was killed by a person driving as he biked at 12th & Yesler, an area long flagged as dangerous for people biking. He leaves behind grieving students, family, and a community demanding change. Our hearts go out to all who knew “Mr. S,” as his students affectionately knew him. A GoFundMe has been created for his family. Please consider supporting if you are able. https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-the-salyer-family

UPDATE: Construction will now begin Monday, June 1 so the full East lake Sammamish Trail will remain open through May 31.
---
A section of the East Lake Sammamish Trail (ELST) will be closed starting May 26, 2026 through the rest of the year so crews can replace aging culverts and expand salmon habitat.

Although the construction area is short, its location will temporarily split the trail into two separate sections. There will be no detour around the construction closure. The 600 ft trail closure area is located between Louis Thompson Rd NE and NE Inglewood Hill Rd.

Once the culverts under the trail have been completed, a new wide paved trail section will be built and high-quality salmon habitat on George Davis Creek will be accessible.

Thank you for your patience as we work to help recover local Kokanee salmon populations. Learn more about our Fish Passage Restoration Program at https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dnrp/nature-recreation/environment-ecology-conservation/wildlife/fish-and-shellfish/fish-passage-program
