We get families reading so children can reach their potential.

Today, on the United Nations’ Global Day of Parents, we celebrate the people who are every child’s first teachers. 💚

Long before a classroom, children learn through conversations, stories, songs, and moments shared at home. Parents and caregivers help shape language, curiosity, confidence, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning.

At Worldreader, we believe supporting parents as reading partners is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen early literacy and child development. Every story shared together creates opportunities for connection, imagination, and growth.

When families read together, children don’t just build literacy skills — they build relationships, resilience, and a stronger foundation for the future.

To all parents and caregivers: thank you for the countless ways you teach, nurture, and inspire every day.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to recognize something powerful: investments in family literacy are also investments in mental health, connection, and thriving communities.

Family literacy is about more than reading proficiency. Shared reading builds empathy, resilience, emotional vocabulary, and belonging — all essential to social-emotional learning and wellbeing.

Research shows that when families read together, children develop stronger language skills, healthier emotional regulation, reduced stress, and stronger relationships. These shared moments also strengthen the bonds that help buffer against adversity.

Books create space for safety, curiosity, conversation, and reflection. They help children see themselves, understand others, and imagine new possibilities. Literacy isn’t just education work — it’s wellbeing work.

Because stories shared together don’t just improve outcomes — they shape futures.

Share a story. Shape a life.

We’re proud that Dr. Sejal Shah represented Worldreader this week at the “Reading to Protect” co-design workshop in Kenya.

Our continued collaboration with health organizations — including National Vaccines and Immunization Program, Ministry of Health, and the Kenya Paediatric Association — reinforces the critical connection between literacy, child development, and family well-being.

By working together across sectors, we can help empower families with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to support healthy learning and development for children everywhere.

How do we close the gap between reading policy and family access?

Today’s literacy crisis is no longer just about whether solutions exist — it’s about whether families can actually access the tools and support children need to become confident readers.

As the U.S. education landscape continues to shift, fragmented systems are creating new barriers for educators and families alike. That’s why scalable, family-centered digital reading support matters more than ever.

In CEO Rebecca Chandler Leege's latest article, she explores how BookSmart, powered by Worldreader, is helping bridge this growing divide and what it could mean for the future of literacy.

Access to knowledge should never depend on data costs or internet access. That’s why we’re proud to celebrate the 10+ year partnership between Worldreader and MoyaApp — expanding digital reading and learning opportunities for communities across South Africa.

Literacy is one of the most powerful drivers of educational equity and long-term economic opportunity — but impact requires more than access alone.

At Worldreader, we combine evidence-based literacy practices, culturally relevant digital reading content, and scalable partnerships to help children and families build stronger reading habits and learning outcomes.

Our approach is designed for sustainability: meeting learners where they are, supporting educators and caregivers, and using data-driven insights to continuously improve impact at scale.

Literacy does not end with decoding. It begins there.

In a new op-ed, Worldreader CEO Rebecca Chandler Leege calls for a broader definition of reading, one that prioritizes comprehension, curiosity, and lifelong engagement.

At a time when only 32 percent of U.S. fourth graders read at proficiency, the distinction matters. Decoding words is essential, but understanding them is what unlocks opportunity. The path forward goes beyond instruction alone. When families build daily reading routines, even for a few minutes, children develop stronger skills, deeper understanding, and lasting connections to reading.
