I had the privilege of being interviewed on A Brave New podcast. We covered a wide range of topics from current healthcare stressors in the age of a global pandemic, population health and value-based care initiatives as well as medical homes, the term innovation and its application in healthcare beyond the oft narrow constraints of technology to include people and systems design, virtual care and the unique challenges for patient advocates operating within that care delivery mode, along with healthcare data standards and data conversion into information.
While we didn’t solve the challenges facing healthcare or even explore the tip of iceberg, our conversation hopefully serves to continue many of the meaningful discussions happening in healthcare around opportunities for creativity and innovation to tie together seemingly unrelated, dissimilar topics through a systems medicine lens complimented by organizational design.
As I said on the podcast, “So many of my colleagues are exhausted, so it's a challenging time, but it's also a time where they can pull together and demonstrate what healthcare is able to do. So, it's a time to be encouraged, it's a time to stand strong”.

I am curious to learn if marketing firms anticipate any change/loss in managed advertising campaigns from their clients. Naturally, Fortune 100 and 500 companies have a mix of insource/outsource marketing strategies. But, small to medium size companies may also choose to exit social platform(s) thereby potentially impacting their marketing partner.
Interested to learn more from marketing and advertising professionals.
"Coffee giant Starbucks left Facebook scrambling after the popular chain reportedly threatened to remove its advertising from the platform over frustrations regarding hateful comments left on posts about racial and social justice issues.
"Starbucks is in the process of evaluating their organic presence on FB, and whether they should continue to have a presence on the platform at all," a Facebook employee wrote to colleagues in internal discussions seen by BuzzFeed News. "

This is a picture of one of my azalea bushes. By any measure, it is not remarkable or beautiful. But, it has a story which makes it remarkable and beautiful to me.
At the beginning of 2020 , I experienced an urgent and severe home repair issue which necessitated using a backhoe to dig up a trench alongside my home. The end of the trench abutted my azalea. Despite best efforts, part of the bush was run over by the backhoe. That was only after shovels had been used around the area and dirt piled on top of the bush.
Eventually, we replanted the half that was dug up . Last year, it barely bloomed and looked more like twigs and bush than blooms. But I knew there was life and hope. This year, after it had a chance to recover from its stressful event, we pruned it. Within weeks, lush green leaves exploded from the pruned branches. Soon, pink blooms followed and finally the whole bush was engulfed in blossoms.
As a small business owner, 2020 was difficult. This year has also been challenging. So, I resonant with the journey of my azalea. The part of the bush that was pruned and suffered the most, is the most beautiful. It is emblematic of perseverance and thriving, not just endurance.
I hope my azalea brings a bit of encouragement and perhaps a smile.

In addition to vaccination, perhaps a bigger and long-term question should be explored (and not just accepted as status quo) regarding mitigation of staff turnover and continuity of care.
"Like the rest of the direct care work force, home care workers are primarily women of color, many of them immigrants. At an average $12.12 an hour in 2019, they are the lowest-paid group, according to the research and advocacy group PHI. Almost half rely on some form of public assistance, like Medicaid or food programs.
Without a central workplace, they will be harder to reach, educate and vaccinate than aides in nursing homes and assisted living centers. (Some, privately hired by individuals and families through the so-called gray market, don’t work for agencies at all.)
“Vaccine hesitancy is absolutely a factor, but more so is the lack of easily accessible opportunities to get vaccinated,” said April Verrett, president of S.E.I.U. Local 2015, the union representing almost 400,000 home care aides in California."

"Home-based care companies, including Amazon Care and two health systems, are lobbying Congress to make permanent changes to home health care reimbursement policies.
Intermountain Healthcare and Ascension are two of the founding members of the Moving Health Home coalition, which aims to change the way policymakers think about the home as a site of clinical service.
Moving Health Home says it has five policy priorities, and top of the list is pushing for Medicare coverage of higher-acuity home-based services, such as emergency services. The group also wants policymakers to create an extended care benefit that would serve as a home-based alternative for skilled nursing facility care.
The coalition also is advocating for permanent "Hospital without Walls” site of care flexibility to support home-based hospital services.
The coalition also wants home-based evaluation and monitoring services to be reimbursed at the same rate as the 2022 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for what primary care office visits are paid."

Combine retail market research and our favorite beverage...coffee...and you get this story. How does "Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso" sound?
"For Oatly, coffee shops are a crucial way to introduce consumers to its signature product. Consumers can try oat milk — usually for a small additional charge, which is common for milk alternatives — without committing to buying an entire carton.
The approach has helped Oatly create a large fan base and hold onto it, even as new competitors like Chobani or private-label products entered the market."

Older people are disappearing as businesses adopt new technology to stay competitive...Companies will say, ‘We’ll train you,’ but people who feel they are close to retiring often say, ‘I don’t want to bother.’ " This approach often leads to worsening economics and career outcomes.
Instead, this article recommends:
* Stay at your job - don't resist the change
* Improve your attitude about yourself
* Ignore stereotypes about learning capabilities and productivity of older people
