Seattle area, did you know there's a cooperatively-owned co-working space in Maple City (Maple leaf/Lake City)!
Full time office spaces, plus part-time, and daily/hourly rates available! I've been a member since 2013? And a co-op owner since 2019. If you're a freelancer and in need of a place to work outside of your home, check us out!

ALL I hear is, "Girl, you'll be a Woman soon"
File under:
The WA Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprise means well I'm sure, and hopefully the long-term rewards will be many, but this was more cumbersome and invasive a process than applying for a loan. I'm surprised I didn't need to provide some proof of female-ness? Who else is a Certified MWBE in WA, and what was your experience?

Contractor Skill-Building 08/25/2022

The RainWise program depends on local landscape contractor businesses to design and build rain garden and cistern installations that slow the flow of rain 🌧️☔ into our combined sewer systems.
One of my consulting projects this year was to create these videos to present short, bite sized modules for busy people who want to install Rainwise projects.
https://700milliongallons.org/rainwise/contractor-resources/contractor-skill-building/
Working with Sullivan and Taylor is always a delight!
If you know anyone interested in starting their own business, please share these videos with them! The modules cover basic business setup, taxes, licensing, hiring people, estimating, and invoicing. (Actually the videos are great for ANYONE who wants to start a business in Seattle, WA!) 😉

Water Conservation Showcase 07/28/2020

If you are interested in learning about watersheds, GSI and public education, check out this cool panel I am part of next week:
https://www.waterconservationshowcase.com/
Watersheds as Engagement Tool
Speakers: Dr. Elizabeth Dougherty, Cari Simson, Kat Sawyer
Host: Ryan Stroupe
8/4/20 | 9:00am - 10:20am
Too often, the concept and practices of water conservation and reuse are introduced in an environmental vacuum, lacking the deeper context of ʺwhy we conserveʺ. In this panel, we’ll be focusing on watershed health and connecting people to both their local watershed ecosystems as well as the watershed(s) ecosystems that provide potable water and ongoing motivation for conservation and reuse. We’ll be looking at case studies from Seattle, WA and California watersheds.

Water Conservation Showcase The annual Water Conservation Showcase is the flagship event in California, addresing the most pressing water issues facing the Golden State today.

Kat started her training with Dirt Corps and then started her own business, and is now a thriving landscape company that can install Rainwise rain gardens and cisterns. In September SPU will start the Rainwise Academy, to train and mentor as many small businesses to install Rainwise as possible. Our region also needs people to design and build green Infrastructure systems on a wider scale. Please forward this training to people to know who are looking for work 🌱💚🌎🌲

Seattle Public Utilities is offering a FREE comprehensive workshop to become independent RainWise contractors. Completing the training will help you run your own business installing rain gardens and cisterns on private property in the City of Seattle. Apply by July 31 here: http://bit.ly/RainWiseAcademy.
