In 1975, there were no Latino fraternities in existence in the United States. The traditional student club would not suffice to accomplish such lofty goals.
The Greek-letter organizations of the time primarily catered to Anglo and African-American students and graduates. Lambda’s founders, as men of vision, realized there was a need to unite the Latino students, develop their leadership skills, impart upon them the value of an education, and instill in them a commitment to their community and culture. Hence, Latino unity and brotherhood would be achie
ved through a long recognized institution – the fraternity. This newest addition to the Greek system would be the first in the nation, by identity and by name: Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Incorporated. REASONS TO JOIN
Lambda Theta Phi promotes leadership, professionalism, academics, culture, and community service. In addition, we participate in many academic, social, and professional activities and offer lifelong brotherhood and tradition. We have partnered up with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute to assist youth to attend a summer internship to develop professional skills to become the next Latino leaders of tomorrow. No other organization exists that instills a stronger sense of unity and pride than Lambda Theta Phi. SALUTING
Saluting in Latino-Greeks originated with Lambda Theta Phi. Saluting was conceived for the purpose of allowing brothers of Lambda Theta Phi to pay respect to other members of the fraternity and other organizations as well as a way for Lambda Theta Phi to distinguish itself in the Greek community. Traditionally, other Greek organizations demonstrated their pride and respect by stepping or strolling. However, Lambda Theta Phi sought to start a new tradition with saluting. From then until now, we continue to show its pride and respect. INTERESTED IN MORE? Lambda Theta Phi holds informational events to provide an opportunity for students to meet with the brothers and learn more about the fraternity. Students can attend any informational and can also become part of an interest group. The purpose of the interest group is to meet brothers, to promote academics, establish a peer support group, and conduct community service projects as well as fundraisers to see if that is something you would like to do as a brother.
