At GreyZone, we are passionate about accurate diagnoses. Are you an LGBTQ+ person that has experienced difficulties with getting an accurate or timely explanation of a health problem (a diagnosis)?

Our friends at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health reached out to us as they are seeking to understand how a patient's sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression can impact their ability to receive a diagnosis.

They are recruiting patients and family members to discuss their experiences with diagnostic difficulties. Your participation is completely voluntary and will involve 1-2 hours over Zoom at a time that works best for you.

Have you heard of ? Put simply, Open Notes is the international movement dedicated to making sure patients have electronic access to their doctor's notes. The U.S. federal rule enacted this month instructs institutions to grant patients access now. The mandate covers access to:
- consultation notes
- discharge summary notes from a hospital
- history & physical
- imaging narratives for CT/MRI/ultrasounds and other - imaging studies
- laboratory report narratives
- pathology report narratives
- procedure notes
- progress notes

This is a huge success of an effort 10+ years in the making. So please take advantage of it: Sign up for access to your providers' electronic portals. Read your provider notes after each visit. Check out your test results and compare them to your previous ones. Make sure that you are aware of what your doctors think about your health and don't be afraid to raise clarifying questions. If you catch a mistake — ask them to correct it!

Like other patients who utilize Open Notes already, you may find yourself:

1. Understanding your condition better
2. Feeling more in control of the care you receive
3. Being better prepared for each new appointment
