For one in six children in Seattle, the end of the school year doesn’t just mean summer break – it means losing the reliable school meals they depend on.
To help fill the summer meals gap, HelloFresh , United Way of King County, and Food Lifeline distributed free wholesome HelloFresh meals to a local elementary school during the last week of the school year. Attending families also received crucial information about grocery support programs like Summer EBT, SNAP benefits, and access to free local meal resources, courtesy of No Kid Hungry.
The event was part of the Kids Helping Kids to End Childhood Hunger campaign, an evolution of HelloFresh and No Kid Hungry’s ongoing partnership to ensure all children are nourished over the summer. This year, peer-led support is giving kids the opportunity to advocate for one another, turning classmates into community leaders.
This campaign is an investment in the future generation, promising that all children will stay nourished and that no student faces a summer of hunger alone. For more information and to get involved, visit www.hellofresh/nokidhungry.

We’re incredibly grateful to KIRO 7 News, Albert Lee Appliance and QFC for coming together with Food Lifeline to make this year’s KIRO 7 Cares Food Drive such a meaningful success. Thanks to this partnership, neighbors showed up in a big way, Albert Lee contributed a generous $25,000, and QFC shoppers helped provide food valued at $14,350 through virtual grocery bags.
This support comes at a critical moment, as summer begins and many families lose access to school meals and face the added burden of putting hundreds of additional meals on the table. KIRO’s powerful storytelling helped shine a light on this urgent need, reaching millions and inspiring action across our community.
Because of this collective effort, we’re able to distribute nourishing, culturally relevant food to neighbors when it matters most and bring our community closer together. 💙

Last month, volunteers from the Chinese Information and Service Center (CISC) came together to make a meaningful impact—sorting over 1,320 lbs of food to support the community. 💛
As group coordinator, Mandy shared, “Our seniors felt genuinely happy, fulfilled, and proud of what they were able to accomplish that day. It was especially meaningful for us to see one of our eldest participants, who is 82 years old, taking part with such joy.”
The CISC volunteers remind us of power of community, purpose, and giving back at every age. 🙌

Conversations on the Dock
Featuring Jeff Thungc, Iu-Mein American Association
In our conversation, Jeff Thungc reminds addressing hunger is about more than distributing food—it’s about building a network of organizations that can meet community needs together. Jeff shares how local organizations pool resources, coordinate food access, and prioritize culturally relevant foods that help families feel seen, supported, and connected.
"We’re the center of a consortium...pretty much a collective of organizations that are coming together to support each other." - Jeff Thungc

We love our volunteers—our work wouldn’t be possible without their incredible dedication.
Today, we’re spotlighting Baskar Kesavulu. For more than a decade, Baskar has made service a way of life, bringing together families, youth, coworkers, and community groups to support Food Lifeline. In 2012, he began leading a youth group from a local chapter of the Sri Sathya Sai International Organization to volunteer one Saturday each month—helping young people experience the power of compassion and giving back firsthand. What started with 12 participants has grown into a thriving group of 68.
Baskar believes generosity is contagious—that when we serve, we inspire others to join in, creating a powerful ripple effect of community care.

Happy Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
This month, we honor the stories of families who crossed oceans, built new beginnings, and shaped communities across the country. We celebrate the elders who preserved language and tradition, the young people redefining identity with pride, and the generations whose courage, creativity, and leadership continue to open doors for others. From movements for civil rights to breakthroughs in art, food, science, and culture, AANHPI communities have woven their experiences into the fabric of our shared story -often in ways that go unseen but are felt everywhere.

When school lets out for summer, so do the daily meals many kids rely on.
For families across Washington, that can mean stretching groceries a little further and finding new ways to keep everyone nourished. That’s where SUN Bucks can make a difference. With $120 per eligible child, families have added support to fill their carts and keep meals on the table all summer long.
Many families are already enrolled through programs like SNAP, TANF, or free school meals. But for others, a simple step—like submitting a CNEEB form to your child’s school—can help unlock this benefit.
Because every child deserves access to healthy, nourishing food—no matter the season.
