A group of young people from and around the U District called The Youth Action Board will be hosting an open mic night on July 30th 5-9pm!

The event will feature artistic expressions and performances that create space for the voices of young people who have experience living on the street. Young people will also be showcasing and selling art pieces they have been working on.

All proceeds from event will go directly towards young people with lived experience of homelessness.

The 2021 Youth Action Board (YAB) is a collaborative project between the Doorway Project and Sanctuary Art Center. This four-month (October - January) training for young adults with lived experience of homelessness in and around the University District to learn storytelling, art, and job readiness skills while advocating for community and self. Participants are paid $4,250 ($250 per week) to actively engage in a process aimed at helping young adults know themselves, understand their power and use their identities as a launching point towards social consciousness and social action.

Join us for the March Healing Pages Book Club, this Thursday from 12-2pm at - University District Youth Center. We will be reading "I am not your perfect Mexican daughter" by Erica Sánchez.

This space, supported by  and , is a space created by and for young people with lived experience of homelessness. This month we'll be reading "I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter" by Erika Sánchez. A copy of the book and $20 (per week) will be provided for up to 10 YYA interested in participating. 

We invite the larger community to join us in reading and discussion via zoom. Link in bio for book purchase and registration
