And, boy, does the house smell delicious!

Being able to care for others, doing something that reminds them of home in positive ways…all part of a child feeling safe enough to begin to do the work to heal from trauma in their lives.

Summertime is a time for reflection…a chance to simply be, to think, to let yourself wonder. For the kids at Bridge, it means they feel safe enough to simply let themselves be and supported enough to let themselves think and wonder.

Safe and supported…so children can simply be.

That’s the Bridge difference.

One of residents made a cake for the staff and kids to enjoy “just because”…

Helping kids express their creativity and interest…

Helping them risk caring for others and offering the gift of their efforts…

Letting kids make ordinary days something to celebrate …

All of these are such an important part of helping children coming out of abuse and neglect to build trust in themselves and build connection with others in safe and supportive ways.

All part of the “Bridge Difference”!

A brother and sister in our care were drawing a “family” portrait on our chalk wall yesterday …remembering the foster parents they called “mom” and “dad” whose care they are no longer in…a hard thing for these two little ones.

Helping children transition from hard places and big losses is all a part of what we do at Bridge. Because trauma that isn’t talked about will stay with children their entire lives.

But being able to talk about what happened …to name it and say how it made them feel is the first step in healing for the children at Bridge.

Being willing to be there with children in their pain and have the hard and sometimes heartbreaking conversations they need to have…it’s all in a day’s work at Bridge.

And what you are making possible whenever you give.
