Established in 2007, WASITRAC has been registered in the State of Washington as a Non-Profit organization, an advocacy group for a stronger India-U.S. WASITRAC took its first trade mission to India in 2010 under the leadership of Seattle Congressman Jim McDermott and Lt. Question for U.S. Policymakers:
“Given that the Indian diaspora in the United States—approximately 5.1 million people, or about 1.5% of the population—contributes an estimated 5–6% of total federal income taxes while being among the least dependent on federal or state welfare systems, why do U.S. policy discussions often avoid India‑specific terminology and instead default to broad labels such as ‘South Asian’? What factors prevent a more direct, India‑focused engagement with a community that plays such a significant economic and civic role in the country?
