Haven’t built much lately. But here’s my newest builds! The mirror was fun to build because it was different for me. I may start having to offer some to sell ;)

I present to you, Bessy the Dressy. I finally finished building her. She is solid white oak and heavy as hell!!!! The look of my whole place has changed having a beautiful dresser, that I built. I say it every time, but this is my favorite piece I’ve built. It has Blum Undermount slides and finished with Osmo. Should last a lifetime.

I’ve got my day planned out! I also learned something yesterday. There is Osmo 3054, and there is Osmo 3043 (or something in the 40’s). They are both clear satin and the cans look exactly the same, minus different numbers. One is made in USA and has a “wetter” look. So make sure you get the right one if you’re continuing a project or have a specific look in mind!

I built some nightstands for myself out of solid white oak. I think this with every project, but they are my favorite items I have ever built. I designed them after a dresser that I ordered. The dresser was delivered and it was no where near the quality or craftsmanship of the nightstands. So now I get to build a dresser too. I used Blum Undermount drawer slides, so the slides are totally concealed and not seen. These things are amazing because they have so many adjustments! The nightstands are my pride and joy. I have never built drawers or used slides before, and everything came out perfectly, almost 😉 But what good is handmade if there aren’t a few imperfections?

Today I am grateful that the project my mom and I worked on for 9 months is completed! We built 10 patio chairs out of some beautiful clear cedar. It took a lot of time to come up with the design, the plan, and the materials. Most of all, to come up with the time to build them. It took many hours after work and on the weekends. This project was a few firsts for me. It was my fist chair, and my first production style based project. I am so proud of them and happy to have been able to build these for my parents. It was a lot of fun building them with my mom, and my dad helped when he could. I got a little sad putting in the last screw. And before anyone asks, NO THESE WILL NOT BE FOR SALE! Lol.

Been working on a big personal project with my mom. Slowly but surly it’s coming along!!!

My love for woodworking started by building some shelves. It lead me to building furniture and doors. It has now lead me to building houses! I just joined a great company as a carpenter apprentice. I’m working out of area on Orcas Island during the week. It was a beautiful commute yesterday home on the ferry. This is definitely out of my comfort zone which means growth! I am so excited to learn a new aspect of building. Carpentry is not an easy industry to get into as a lady. But all you need is one to give you a chance, and this company was excited that I was a female! Never in a million years growing up think I’d be building houses, but I think it’s pretty f’ing cool!

I’m building 10 patio chairs with my mom. I’ve been wanting to build these for her for a few years. I’m using this beautiful clear cedar. I’ve never built chairs before so I’m looking forward to the challenge of something new. If anyone has any suggestions on how to seal these puppies for the outdoors, I’m all ears!!!!

I made my family a set of Rummikub racks out of some scrap cedar from work for Christmas. Much nicer than the cheap plastic ones they come with.

Client pic of the barn door built for some very kind and thoughtful clients for their new home. It is always such an honor that someone wants something I built in their home. And from what I see beyond the door, it is a beautiful home! Door is colored and sealed with Rubio Monocoat in a custom color that is apparently already made Bourbon 5%, lol.

Built a barn door for a local client. I have never built this design before and it was so much fun. Back side is all vertical boards. While I’m still not taking on a lot of personal projects right now, I felt a pull to build this door. And I’m so glad I did! The clients were so much fun and I’m always honored when someone wants something I built in their home. Pine started as tongue and groove. Milled wood for the first time into shiplap. Colored and sealed with using 1/2 Pure and 1/2 Bourbon (Bourbon has a very light appearance on the door, but it did warm it up slightly). Can’t wait to get pics from the client once it’s hung!!!

My new shop cats. They think my wood is their playground. They have a healthy fear of saws and loud noises, but are very curious about them. I just hope they don’t chew all my cords.
