Happy 166th Birthday to Anton Chekhov! 🎉
Your humanitarian legacy remains more inspiring and vital than ever. Thank you for creating work that shows all the little cracks that are sewn together to become human. Those complexities have inspired millions over the years, and still drive us to come together and make art to this day. To Chekhov on his 165th birthday! May he remind us what it is to be human for 165 more.

“So much about American theatre and society is in an identity crisis right now. I’m not sure it’s ever been so up in the air. So you see great writers like Heidi Schreck, Annie Baker, Richard Nelson, and others reaching back to adapt Chekhov plays.” - Gavin Reub, Artistic Director | The Seagull Project

😈📖💃🏻
Running March 22nd-April 13th at 12th Ave Arts. For tickets & info visit: https://www.dachatheatre.com/mastermargarita.html. Recommended for ages 13+
The Devil went down to Moscow...1930’s Soviet era Moscow that is. The Master is missing. His novel about Pontius Pilate was rejected, and he himself has disappeared. To find her lover, Margarita must embark on a journey that will bring her into contact with a mysterious foreigner and his otherworldly crew. This gothic Soviet fairytale, full of magical realism, and satire of greed and corruption is a sometimes charming, sometimes bewildering, always hilarious ride through a strange, but all too recognizable world.
Directed by Mike Lion, “The Master and Margarita” is a fairy-tale about greed, cowardice, censorship and, at the center of it all, one remarkable woman: Margarita, who undertakes the unthinkable to rescue her lover. This classic novel was written in the 1930s under the USSR and was originally disseminated underground because of its anti-totalitarian themes. Its complex, weaving plot was adapted by director Mike Lion for modern audiences, while still remaining true to the Russian sensibilities pervading the text.
The Master and Margarita is Dacha’s latest tra-daption (translation + adaptation!) of a classic literary work, reimagined for the stage with delight and glory. This production will indeed highlight physical theater, using clowning, puppetry and a movement ensemble to capture the sprawling world of the show.
