Smallish Photo Studio

If you've walked past the studio lately, you've probably noticed we've gotten a lot more colorful. Here's the happy reason.

There's a new little shop sharing the studio, and it's all about birthdays. Say hello to Poppie. Inside you'll find balloon bouquets, an old-fashioned candy counter, and birthday portraits for the guest of honor.

Smallish is still here, same as always. And Poppie is the new birthday side of the studio.

Poppie opened last week, and on August 29, we're throwing a proper party.

Some portraits you don't think to make until the moment has already passed, like the grandparents and the grandkids, at exactly this age.

These are almost always the ones families end up treasuring most. I've watched it happen for 10 years now.

Smallish was always a bit of a double meaning. Small, for the little people in front of my camera. And small, for the kind of studio I wanted to run: personal, unhurried, a place to make beautiful things for families I actually get to know.

Over the last ten years, Smallish grew, and I'm grateful for every family who found their way to me. But I've always believed the best work happens when there's less of it. More attention and more care and fewer families given more of my time...

So, Smallish is small, on purpose. A studio built around depth instead of volume, and portraits made to be printed and kept, not files that disappear down your camera roll.

I've photographed families here in Madrona for almost ten years, and this is still my favorite kind of portrait. One little person, exactly as they are now, and a portrait created by me that you'll still have in fifty years.

This age never comes back. My job is to catch it for you and make it permanent. Filling your walls with something finished and framed is the whole reason Smallish exists.
