We need to ban new plastics being produced. We have over 8.3 billion tons of plastic to work with. We don't need any more.

Your Recycling Gets Recycled, Right? Maybe, or Maybe Not Plastics and papers from dozens of American cities and towns are being dumped in landfills after China stopped recycling most “foreign garbage.”
Not only should we be thinking of ways to recycle plastic that has already been made - we should think about alternatives to replace plastic too. Quit production of new plastics!

A very interesting read, forwarded to us by Professor Patrick Christie from SMEA. This article sums up the history of us becoming a planet addicted to plastic, the problems with this addiction and possible solutions.
We Made Plastic. We Depend on It. Now We’re Drowning in It. The miracle material has made modern life possible. But more than 40 percent of it is used just once, and it’s choking our waterways.
