The first year at Georgetown Atelier centers around drawing. Before moving onto more imaginative drawings or paintings, learners are pushed to and past the limits of their drawing abilities with the cast project. Last year chose this skull for his cast project, and after months of intense work, this beautiful rendering was the result. Worth it!

We often hear from visitors to our studio the dreaded comment, “I can only draw a stick figure”. While it is true that it takes years to learn this craft, anyone can learn to make the sort of art you see from our atelier. The methods we use to teach realistic drawing and painting have been passed down for centuries because they really work! This piece was created by atelier alumni .phan during his final year, and it is breathtaking! Jammy came to the atelier with no previous art-making experience, but he worked hard and his talent soared!

Our curriculum of Imaginative Realism is built upon the development of observational skills first. Alumni .polymorphos painted this during his second year at Georgetown Atelier. The skull was painted from life, while this surreal landscape was invented around it using a combination of reference materials. Quite the spooky scene!
