Why ECM Systems Fail http://documentmedia.com/article-2087-Why-ECM-Systems-Fail.html
Why ECM Systems Fail I’ve been hearing a lot of angry outbursts from workers, frustrated with shared “group” level electronic content management (ECM) systems. Complaints include: It takes too long to index
Is There a Better Way to Treat Vendors and Customers?
Today, the word "vendor" or "customer" in many companies can still bring up a less than enthusiastic response from internal staff, who are under pressure to work with both of these organizations. With vendors, downward pressure on spend and rigorous procurement processes can promote a less than cordial relationship. With customers, the pressure to provide quality, cost, and service demands can be stressful to internal staff. Adding to this dysfunction are internal operating silos—between sales, operations, human resources, and finance. Many times, silos are reinforced by people, processes, and systems.
As the process guy, I have to ask:
•If an organization depends on its suppliers to provide raw materials or critical supporting services, how is an adversarial relationship beneficial?
•If an organization needs to generate revenue from its customers, how is an unenthusiastic relationship beneficial?
So, how do we “tear down these walls?” READ MORE http://documentmedia.com/article-2485-Is-There-a-Better-Way-to-Treat-Vendors-and-Customers.html

A SharePoint steering committee meeting, which I was invited to by the chief executive officer (CEO), started off with: an operational executive telling information technology (IT) that they could not find some of the documents they needed in SharePoint; legal saying that during e-discovery, older records had been discovered in SharePoint that should have been disposed of in accordance with their schedules; the records manager politely responding to legal that electronic records stored in SharePoint were outside of their responsibility; and IT asking for funds to upgrade SharePoint. As the chief financial officer (CFO) called for a five-minute break in the action, I readied myself to jump in.
"The problem with SharePoint is not SharePoint," I told the group of battling executives. I then asked the following questions: Read More http://documentmedia.com/article-2275-The-Problem-with-SharePoint.html
Why process innovation and paperless technology? Paperless technologies, such as scanning, capture, recognition, digital signature, electronic content management (ECM), workflow and retention/disposition, can have a powerful impact on an organization. This impact can be positive in terms of efficiency, quality and service; negative through increasing labor costs, processing time or errors; or neutral, which has the CFO asking the question: Why did we spend the money in the first place?
So how does an organization determine if paperless technologies will have a positive impact? Read More http://documentmedia.com/article-1374-The-4-Ways-to-Tell-if-Paperless-Technologies-Are-for-You.html
Why do some paperless technology projects get funded and others not? What is the number one reason projects are successful? Hint: it’s all about the process. This AIIM virtual meeting will demystify process improvement methods: CPI, Re-engineering, BPM, LEAN, and Six Sigma and discuss how these methods can be used to successfully budget, plan and implement: capture, electronic content management, digital signature, workflow, and electronic records management technologies.

Applying Six Sigma process improvement methodology and electronic content management (ECM) technology to documents currently stored in email, shared network drives and paper can result in a significant reduction of product/service cost and issues.
What is Six Sigma? Six Sigma is based upon work by Shewhart and Deming (post WWII Japan), further developed by Motorola in 1980s and made popular by Jack Welsh at GE in 1995. Six Sigma focuses on improving quality of process by identification and removal of the cause of: READ MORE http://documentmedia.com/article-1392-Do-You-Have-These-Five-Items-on-Your-Process-and-ECM-Technology-Checklist.html
I’ve been hearing a lot of angry outbursts from workers, frustrated with shared “group” level electronic content management (ECM) systems. Complaints include: It takes too long to index documents; each group indexes documents differently; and they can’t find needed documents. Records managers and general legal counsel weigh in with their own complaints, stating that these systems do not provide disposition/retention (i.e., electronic records management) and are out of sync with the organization’s records schedules, policies, procedures and governance. Magnify this situation by 2X to over 500X and you have the state of the union for many organizations, ranging in size from privately held to Fortune 100.
