SSC COMMISSIONER SPOTLIGHT:

At just 21 years old, Abubakr Abdulkadir is already making a lasting impact across the Pacific Northwest. As founder of Atuiqe, a Seattle-based event management company, he has built a reputation for creating meaningful experiences that bring people together and strengthen communities.

"Sports gave me a common language. I've connected with people from completely different backgrounds, different cultures, and different parts of the city and the love of the game is what opened the door every time. That ability to build across difference is something I carry into everything I do, including my work in events and community building."

Through festivals, comedy nights, and community programming, including Muz Fest, the Pacific Northwest’s only Unity for Communities Festival, Abubakr has created spaces where people feel seen, represented, and connected. Muz Fest welcomed 2,400 attendees in its inaugural year and grew to more than 3,100 attendees in 2025.

"Sports don't ask for much before they let you in. You don't need to speak the same language, come from the same place, or share the same background. You just need to love the game. I've seen that work in my own life, and I've seen it work in this city. That's not a small thing."

This summer, he joins the Seafair Royal Court as the 2026 Community Hero, a recognition that reflects both his impact and his commitment to serving others.

"Sports are home for me. Growing up, the soccer ball was always around, my family played together, we gathered around games, and that was just part of how we lived. Seattle is where all of that happened, so when I think about this city and sports, I don't separate them. It's personal before it's anything else."
